Language Arts 8

English Language Arts 8 prepares students for high school-level literacy through continued development of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and research skills aligned with the 2024 Virginia Standards of Learning. Students analyze a variety of literary and informational texts, focusing on theme, structure, and author’s purpose. Writing instruction emphasizes narrative, analytical, and persuasive forms, with refinement of grammar, usage, and style. Students participate in collaborative discussions and presentations, and conduct research using credible sources. This course supports students in becoming independent thinkers and effective communicators ready for the transition to high school English.
