English 11

English 11 focuses on American literature and the development of advanced literacy skills aligned with the 2024 Virginia Standards of Learning. Students will read and analyze texts from a range of historical periods and cultural perspectives, exploring themes central to the American experience. Special emphasis is placed on the contributions of diverse cultures to American literary voices and themes, highlighting how these perspectives shape and enrich the national narrative. Writing instruction emphasizes analytical, persuasive, and research-based compositions, with continued attention to grammar, usage, and vocabulary. Students will refine their ability to communicate effectively through speaking, listening, and multimodal presentations.
