IB Biology I (HL) (DE) is an academically rigorous, in-depth study of selected areas of biology that allows highly motivated students to delve more deeply into life systems and processes. Students will focus on biological processes with a chemical foundation, including macromolecules, cellular structure, metabolism, and genetics in an evolutionary context. They will explore the core concepts of evolution; structure and function; information flow, storage and exchange; pathways and transformation of energy and matter; and systems biology. They will emphasize the process of science, interdisciplinary approach, and relevance of biology to society. Successful completion of this course equates to BIO 101 General Biology I (4 credits) at NOVA.
